Mustafa Chiftçi, the Interior Minister of Turkey, emphasized bilateral cooperation and the dissolution of the terrorist groups PKK and PJAK during a meeting with Iskender Momeni, the Interior Minister of Iran, on October 17, 2023, at the Ministry of Interior in Turkey. This meeting was held to strengthen security relations and address common challenges regarding border security and the fight against terrorism.

During this meeting, Chiftçi elaborated on the joint security agenda and added: "We are strengthening our long-standing and deep-rooted neighborhood through joint security actions." He also emphasized that the two countries discussed issues related to illegal immigration and drug trafficking. Chiftçi referred to the assessment of the development of the "Turkey Free of Terrorism" process, which is being implemented under the command of Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

Necessity of Dissolving Terrorist Groups

The Interior Minister of Turkey further mentioned the dissolution of PKK/KCK and the necessity of laying down the arms of this group, stating: "Iran and Turkey emphasized the importance of completing the dissolution process of all branches and extensions of this organization under different names and in various regions." He also stressed the need to pay attention to PKK groups in Syria and Iraq and PJAK in Iran in this process.

Chiftçi noted that to achieve peace and security in the region, the two countries must examine existing security threats and take joint actions to counter them. He added: "We seek to create a stable and permanent region similar to the peaceful and secure environment of Turkey and will continue to resolutely confront cross-border threats in solidarity and coordination with our neighbors."
