While official statistics seemingly indicate disease control in Sudan, bitter realities are unfolding in Darfur and Kordofan. Cholera, dengue fever, and hepatitis are spreading alarmingly, and in the midst of this, the onslaught of rains and the wave of people's helplessness only exacerbate the disaster.
Statistics or Reality?
Local doctors have explicitly stated that official statistics only show the "tip of the iceberg." Weak health systems, lack of access to information, and proper monitoring have resulted in many cases of illness going unrecorded. Meanwhile, living conditions in these areas are critically dire, and health and treatment facilities have been reduced to a minimum.
The flood of migrations and population displacements is also fueling the crisis. Many families, fleeing from diseases and dire conditions, seek refuge in other areas, which increases pressure on health and treatment resources in safer regions.
The Call of Doctors
Doctors and health activists in these areas continuously warn of the worsening situation. They acknowledge that in the absence of effective prevention and treatment programs, the number of patients is increasing day by day. Meanwhile, international aid is also slow to reach those in need due to the unsafe conditions.
As the rainy season approaches, concerns about the further spread of diseases have increased. Local doctors emphasize that if immediate measures are not taken, a humanitarian disaster awaits.
