Asim Munir Asks Iran to Convince Ansar Allah

Asim Munir, the Chief of Army Staff of Pakistan, in a phone conversation with Abbas Araghchi, a senior Iranian diplomat, has asked Tehran to leverage its influence over the Ansar Allah group to stop attacks on Saudi Arabian energy facilities. This conversation took place on Wednesday, following escalating tensions in the Middle East and growing concerns about the security situation in the region.

Islamabad's Efforts for Negotiation

Pakistani government sources announced on Thursday that this request is part of Islamabad's efforts to achieve a negotiated solution to the Yemen conflict. In this conversation, Asim Munir pointed to the negative impacts of Ansar Allah's attacks on Saudi Arabia's oil and economic infrastructure and urged Iran to convince the group to cease its ongoing attacks.

Iran has also confirmed that the phone talks between Munir and Araghchi took place during Araghchi's recent visit to China. Ismail Baqaei, the spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, noted that Tehran does not interfere in Yemen's affairs and described Ansar Allah as independent actors.

Ceasefire and Negotiations

Islamabad has previously expressed its concerns about escalating tensions and emphasized its commitment to a bilateral defense agreement with Saudi Arabia. Sajjad Haider Khan, the spokesperson for the Pakistani Foreign Ministry, emphasized the importance of peace and stability in the region in response to questions about possible actions by Pakistan against Ansar Allah's attacks.

He also pointed out that Pakistan is seeking to establish dialogue and diplomacy instead of military action. In this context, Pakistani and Iranian officials have been exploring ways to revive direct negotiations with the United States to end the war. Araghchi also announced Iran's readiness to return to negotiations, provided that hostile actions by the United States cease.

Pakistan's diplomatic efforts to revive relations between Iran and the United States continue while China, as a key player in this regard, is assisting Islamabad's efforts to reduce tensions. Wang Yi, the Chinese Foreign Minister, has also emphasized the need for restraint and a return to negotiations during his meeting with Araghchi.
