Five individuals in the United States have been charged with schemes related to Russian intelligence, including surveillance, recruitment, and planning for murder. This information has come to light following the release of an indictment by the U.S. Department of Justice.
Details of the Charges
On Tuesday, prosecutors announced that this group was operating on behalf of Russian intelligence services to carry out international attacks and killings, which also included the United States. All five individuals remain at large, and their identities include Yuri Kharamiev, 63, and his son Kirill Kharamiev, 27, along with two Cubans named Oeymis Romagers and Yaidel Delgado Suarez, both 35, and Angel Eduardo Castro, 22, from Venezuela.

Charges and Consequences
All five individuals have been charged with conspiracy to provide material support to terrorism, while Kharamiev, Suarez, and Castro face additional charges of conspiracy to commit murder for hire. Todd Blanche, the Attorney General, stated in a press conference that the schemes included attempts to kill a Russian dissident believed to be living in the Washington, D.C. area.
Officials from the Department of Justice stated that this network had recruited several individuals in the United States to surveil Russian dissidents, targeting individuals both domestically and in Lithuania. In one instance, an employee was offered an equivalent of $40,000 to make a target based in the United States disappear. In a separate case, another employee was offered $25,000 as a reward for killing someone in Lithuania.
The Russian embassy in the United States has yet to respond to this case. Moscow has consistently denied allegations of organizing assassination operations on the territory of foreign countries, including the United States.
