On September 3, Houthi forces captured the city of Al-Mokha with a heavy attack on the southern areas of Hudaydah and Taiz. Government forces retreated towards Bab al-Mandab and Lahij province in an attempt to regain control of the city.

On September 3, Houthi forces launched a heavy attack against the internationally recognized Yemeni government in the southern areas of Hudaydah and Taiz. These attacks occurred in the districts of Hays and Al-Khokha in Hudaydah province, as well as in the districts of Jabal Habashi, Maqbana, Mawza, and Al-Wazi'ah in Taiz province. These areas are recognized as a vital geographical corridor connecting the mountainous highlands of Taiz to the coastal plain along the Red Sea.

Countering Houthi Advances

Initially, government forces were able to halt Houthi attacks in both provinces and stop their advance towards Al-Mokha for nearly a week. However, on Wednesday night, Houthi fighters launched a swift attack from the southern side of Hudaydah and western Taiz, capturing the city of Al-Mokha in one night.

Retreat of Government Forces

Government forces, including the National Resistance Forces (NRF), National Shield Forces (NSF), and Giants Brigades (Al-Amaliqa), were heavily engaged in attempts to regain the city of Al-Mokha. However, ultimately these forces retreated towards Bab al-Mandab and Lahij province. This retreat indicates weakness and instability within the ranks of Yemen's government forces, which appear unable to withstand Houthi attacks.

Recent developments in Yemen have raised serious concerns about the security and humanitarian situation in the country. The capture of Al-Mokha by the Houthis could have profound impacts on the course of the war and on the distribution of humanitarian aid in the region.
