Munich and Barcelona to Host Champions League Finals in 2028 and 2029

Allianz Arena, located in Munich, and Camp Nou in Barcelona will host the UEFA Champions League finals in 2028 and 2029, respectively. UEFA, the governing body of European football, announced this news on Tuesday, introducing these two stadiums as prestigious venues for the biggest events in European football.

Host Details

Allianz Arena, which has a capacity of 70,000, will host the Champions League final for the third time in 2028. This stadium previously hosted the finals in 2012 and 2025, where top European football teams competed. In 2012, Chelsea emerged victorious against Bayern Munich, while in 2025, Paris Saint-Germain claimed the title.

Camp Nou Renovation and Its Importance

On the other hand, Camp Nou in Barcelona is set to host the Champions League final in 2029. This final will take place a year before the 2030 World Cup, which will be co-hosted by Spain, Portugal, and Morocco. Although Camp Nou is undergoing renovations that began in 2023, it has a long history of hosting Champions League finals. The last time this stadium hosted a final was in 1999 when Manchester United defeated Bayern Munich with two late goals.

Yani-Christian Driesen, CEO of Bayern Munich, reacted to the news, stating: "This is fantastic news for us. Allianz Arena, Bayern Munich, and Munich are recognized as an international destination with true hospitality and high-quality organization." He also emphasized that their goal is to provide an exceptional experience for fans and showcase Munich as a global and sporting city.

In Barcelona, Joan Laporta, president of FC Barcelona, viewed this selection as a sign of UEFA's trust in the club and the Camp Nou renovation project, stating: "This is a great honor for FC Barcelona and all Barcelona fans. UEFA's trust in us to host one of the biggest events in world football reflects the scale and ambition of this project."

Additionally, the Metropolitano Stadium in Madrid, home to Atlético Madrid, is already scheduled to host the final for the 2026-2027 season on June 5. Furthermore, the women's Champions League finals in 2028 and 2029 will be held at Parc Olympique Lyonnais in Lyon and Principality Stadium in Cardiff, respectively.

Noel Mooney, CEO of the Football Association of Wales, commented on the women's Champions League final, saying: "Our goal is for the UEFA Women's Champions League final to become a catalyst for the ongoing transformation of women's and girls' football in Wales."
