Various artists have withdrawn from Ed Sheeran's tour in support of Macklemore, the American rapper. This action came after Macklemore was dismissed for supporting Palestine.

Ed Sheeran, the famous English pop singer, has faced serious challenges with the start of his new tour in the United States. Following the dismissal of Macklemore (Ben Haggerty) for supporting Palestine, various artists withdrew from this tour in solidarity with him.

Artists' Opposition to Occupation

Macklemore sparked significant reactions with a statement about Palestine during a concert earlier this month at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. He said: "Free Palestine" and also expressed support for other occupied areas. These remarks led to his removal from Ed Sheeran's tour, an action attributed to the financial pressures resulting from stadium ownership.

Robert Kraft, the owner of Gillette Stadium in Massachusetts, was one of the individuals who fueled this decision. Ed Sheeran responded to this issue by stating that the decisions regarding Macklemore relate to how he expressed himself in the concert, not the overall content of his message.

Withdrawing Artists

Following these events, artists including Finneas (Billie Eilish's brother), Aran Row, the Irish group Beoga, and the Danish group Lukas Graham withdrew from the tour in solidarity with Macklemore. Finneas wrote in an Instagram post: "Artists should not remain silent when speaking up for the oppressed. I stand with Palestine and its people."

Aran Row also stated in a post: "I did not take this decision lightly." He referenced his friendship with Ed Sheeran and said he cannot simply overlook the crimes against humanity.

The group Beoga, known as Ed Sheeran's supporting act, also announced that they would withdraw from the tour due to the suppression of Macklemore. They wrote in a post: "As an Irish group, we can never remain silent in the face of oppression and crimes."

Lukas Forchhammer, the singer of Lukas Graham, also expressed concern in a statement about the conditions of war and the damage inflicted on families around the world, emphasizing the need to speak about these issues.

Social and Cultural Consequences

This situation reflects the deep cultural and social ties between artists and global issues. Artists can use their voices to draw society's attention to humanitarian issues. At the same time, this has turned into challenges for the music industry and economic pressures stemming from political opinions.

The dismissal of Macklemore and the withdrawal of other artists from Ed Sheeran's tour could be recorded as a turning point in contemporary music history, where artists have stood against oppression and injustice instead of remaining silent.
