In 2022, Yemen entered a new phase with a relative ceasefire that revived hopes for peace in this war-torn country. However, this calm was not sustainable and quickly moved towards tension and conflict. Since then, multiple developments have occurred, each contributing in some way to the worsening of conditions.
Siege and Retaliatory Attacks
Since the beginning of the Houthis' siege and their attacks on Saudi Arabia, the situation has been severely affected. In fact, this siege has not only disrupted the lives of the people of Yemen but has also fueled Saudi military retaliations. These attacks, which are in response to Houthi actions, have targeted various regions of Yemen and led to an increase in the number of casualties and homeless individuals.
Gradually, these conflicts have turned into a vicious cycle that is hard to stop. Every time hope for dialogue and peace arises, it turns into a mirage with a new attack or a retaliatory action.
Humanitarian and Political Consequences
The results of these developments have clearly impacted the daily lives of the people of Yemen. The shortage of food, medicine, and other basic necessities is rampant in the shadow of these tensions, and the humanitarian crisis in this country has become one of the worst situations in the world. Additionally, given the military activities and political maneuvers, it seems that neither side is willing to back down, which could escalate the conflicts and ultimately lead to an all-out war.
In these circumstances, the role of the international community in the continuation of this crisis is also worth considering. Can we hope for a sustainable agreement to end these conflicts? Or is Yemen heading towards another all-out war?
