In the heart of the Ukraine war, the sound of explosions and the wail of missiles have turned daily life into a nightmare. Women and children, the greatest victims of this crisis, strive to preserve love and tenderness in their hearts amidst death and destruction. In this context, stories from past generations come alive; including tales of grandmothers who stood firm against hardships.
War Legacies
My grandmother, who lived in her village near Kyiv during World War II, bravely stood against the Nazis. She was only 17 when she had to hide in a small room to escape forced labor. In her middle age, she told me that life during the war was hard, but she always considered herself lucky. These narratives are echoed today among Ukrainian women and girls who are anxiously trying to preserve their identity and humanity.
In the past month, several of my friends in Kyiv have spoken about their trembling hands during bombings. This tremor is a symbol of the collective anxiety and fear that envelops Ukrainian women and children. Life has changed in such a way that every sound, every tremor, reminds them of the deadly dangers. I have somehow become an ambassador for these individuals; those who, in the midst of this crisis, still hold hope and love in their hearts.
Love in the Heart of War
Life in Ukraine, despite all the adversities, is still filled with love and hope. Women who stand against fear and strive to improve life for themselves and their families. Despite their trembling hands, they still need love and affection. This is why they go back to the streets every day and continue to live.
Ultimately, this war is not just a struggle for survival, but an effort to preserve humanity and tenderness in harsh conditions. Ukrainian women and children, despite all the difficulties, move forward and show that love can flourish even in the darkest of times.
