Ismail Baqeri: The Accusations Against the Houthis Regarding the Attack on Mecca Are Invalid

Ismail Baqeri, the spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, made statements regarding the recent attack on Mecca on November 16, 2023. Baqeri condemned any violation of Islamic holy sites, especially Mecca, and emphasized that "a mere claim of intercepting a drone is not enough to accuse the Houthis of this act."

The Necessity of Preventing Politicization of Sacred Issues

Baqeri, in a post published on the social media platform X, stressed the need to prevent the politicization of the security of Islamic holy sites and criticized the use of this issue as a tool to provoke regional tensions. He also pointed out that "our region has witnessed numerous examples of 'false flag' operations" aimed at distracting from the crimes of the Zionist regime and the United States in the region and creating divisions among Islamic countries.

Regional Countries' Reaction to the Drone Attack

These statements come as several regional countries condemned the drone attack on Mecca, which was intercepted by Saudi Arabia, and accused the Houthis of targeting this holy site. However, the Yemeni Houthi group has denied any involvement in this attack. Baqeri also warned regional countries to exercise caution and vigilance in this regard.

In recent days, tensions in the region have escalated due to this incident, and some analysts believe that these attacks could exacerbate divisions among Islamic countries. Baqeri also referred to the necessity of maintaining unity among Islamic countries and efforts to prevent the escalation of tensions.
