Musicians Supporting Palestine Withdraw from Ed Sheeran's Tour

Finneas, the famous artist and brother of Billie Eilish, withdrew from Ed Sheeran's "Loop Tour" on Tuesday. This action came after the removal of Macklemore, the American rapper, due to his statements in support of Palestine. Finneas, along with the Irish groups Aran Rua and Beoga and the Danish group Lukas Graham, announced their separation from the tour through statements citing the current situation.

Protest Against Macklemore's Removal

In a statement posted on social media, Finneas said: "Artists should not be silent when they speak for the oppressed." This statement was released after Aran Rua, the Irish singer, also announced his decision to withdraw from the tour. Rua stated in his announcement: "Ed has been a friend to me and has changed my life, but as an Irishman, we are well aware of genocide, forced famine, and violent occupation. I cannot sit back and allow billionaires to use their power to silence voices of justice."

Support for Freedom of Expression

The group Beoga also issued a similar statement in support of Macklemore and announced their withdrawal from the tour. Additionally, the Danish group Lukas Graham also declined to continue collaborating with Ed Sheeran for the same reason. The lead singer of the group said: "We must be able to talk about war, the killing of civilians and children who have the right to grow up. No one should be limited in expressing their opinion because of their financial situation."

On September 4, Macklemore, during his performance on Ed Sheeran's tour, called for "freedom for Palestine," which received mixed reactions. The pro-Israel group, the Israel-American Council, launched a petition to pressure Ed Sheeran to remove Macklemore from the tour. Macklemore stated in a statement that "Ed Sheeran and his team" removed him from the tour, attributing this to pressures from billionaires.

Ed Sheeran defended himself by saying: "Macklemore's exit from the tour was a decision made by the organizers, not me." He also rejected criticisms regarding his lack of political stance, stating: "Just because I choose not to speak publicly does not mean I do not have opinions, and it does not mean I do not care."
