A convoy of four Russian ships arrived at the port of Tartus in Syria on September 7, marking the first supply shipment since the signing of the agreement between Moscow and Damascus in August. This convoy included the cargo ship Sparta and the tanker Academic Pashin, which docked at the port of Tartus. Additionally, the tanker General Skobarev was waiting offshore. These actions indicate the continued supply of Russian military equipment to its bases in western Syria, particularly the Hmeimim airbase.
The Moscow-Damascus Agreement and Its Implications
Syria announced in early August that it had signed a memorandum of understanding with Moscow after 18 months of negotiations. This agreement allows Russia to continue supplying and strengthening its military bases in Syria. Furthermore, satellite images obtained show the docking of the Sparta ship at the port of Tartus and activities related to the logistics of Russian military supply in Syria. As these ships are under Western sanctions, these actions demonstrate Russia's determination to maintain its supply of military equipment and logistics in Syria.
