Russia has warned Denmark to refrain from its "reckless" actions. This warning was issued after a Russian corvette fired two flares towards a Danish military helicopter in the Baltic Sea, and these flares came dangerously close to the helicopter.
Details of the Incident
Vladimir Barbin, the Russian ambassador in Copenhagen, announced on Tuesday that he blamed the "dangerous maneuvers" of the Danish helicopter as the main cause of the incident and stated that an official note had been sent to Danish officials to prevent such incidents from recurring. He also said that the actions of the Danish helicopter were provocative and condemned Denmark's efforts to describe the incident as a routine action.

The Fennec helicopter was on a routine mission to photograph the Russian corvette in international waters near Denmark. The Danish Defense Command stated that one of the flares passed "a few meters" from the helicopter, and Denmark's Defense Minister, Jeppe Bruus, accused Russia of "deeply unprofessional seamanship."
Danish Reactions and Consequences
When Bruus was asked whether Denmark would address NATO's Article 5 consultations regarding this incident, he said that the incident is being taken seriously, but "we have not reached that point yet." Barbin had also complained last year about the dangerous flights and low-altitude flights of the Danish helicopter over the Russian warship "Nis Admiral Kulakov."
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov refrained from commenting on the incident, stating that he does not have enough information on the matter. The Danish straits, where most Danish incidents with Russia have occurred, are the main gateway for Baltic maritime transport and a key route for oil, including Russian oil tankers.
Mette Frederiksen, the Prime Minister of Denmark, described the incident as serious but unexpected, viewing it as part of Russia's increasing hybrid warfare pattern against Europe and a test for NATO. She stated, "Russia wants to create fear and division" and called for closer solidarity and strengthened defenses for Denmark and Europe.
Russia has denied any hybrid attacks in Europe. However, the likelihood of escalation in the war in Ukraine and the involvement of NATO member countries in Europe is increasing.
The Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman also warned Western politicians and diplomats on Tuesday to assess the risks of traveling to Ukraine "realistically," following a Russian drone attack on a railway line that had just been crossed by a train carrying Boris Johnson, the former Prime Minister of the UK, and Carl Bildt, the former Prime Minister of Sweden.
He stated that railway centers and transport infrastructures serving the Ukrainian army are legitimate targets, and Russia had warned foreign diplomats in May to leave Kyiv due to attacks on Ukraine's military-industrial complex.
