A Russian drone attack on a bus in Nikopol, located in the Dnipropetrovsk region of Ukraine, resulted in the deaths of five people and injuries to seven others. The attack took place on Wednesday near the front lines of the war in southern Ukraine. Oleksandr Honchar, the governor of Dnipropetrovsk region, mentioned this in a message posted on Telegram.
Details of the Attack and Current Conditions
Nikopol is situated across the river from the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, which has been under Russian control since the beginning of the war. Images released by Ukrainian officials show shattered glass from a white minibus and visible bloodstains near the vehicle. Mykola Lukashuk, head of the Dnipropetrovsk regional council, criticized the attack, stating: "The Russians deceitfully attacked a passenger bus. They targeted a minibus where people were going about their daily activities."

Increase in Civilian Casualties in Ukraine
According to reports from the United Nations, the number of civilians killed in Ukraine has sharply increased this year. In the first six months of 2023, at least 1,396 civilians were killed and 7,978 others were injured, representing a 37 percent increase compared to the same period last year. Additionally, during this time, at least 250 civilians were killed and 1,596 others injured in Ukrainian attacks inside Russia, indicating a 121 percent increase in civilian casualties in that country as well.
Both sides, Ukraine and Russia, have strongly denied targeting civilians. Since the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine began in February 2022, the humanitarian situation in the country has been continuously deteriorating.
In other parts of Ukraine, an explosion was heard in the capital Kyiv on Wednesday morning, which a witness claimed was related to a Russian attack. City officials have also reported a fire in a warehouse due to this attack. Furthermore, Volodymyr Diakivich, the governor of the Poltava region, announced that the Russians attacked energy infrastructure in the area, but did not provide further details.
The Russian Ministry of Defense has also stated that a cargo ship in the port of Chornomorsk in the Black Sea was targeted. These attacks reflect the escalation of the humanitarian and military crisis in Ukraine and its severe consequences for civilians.
