Saudi Arabia has announced that it will respond "firmly" to the new wave of repeated Houthi attacks from Yemen against its territory. These tensions have intensified amid the ongoing war in the region between Iran and the United States. On Tuesday, August 15, the Saudi "Civil Defense" agency sounded the alarm for the first time since the start of the war in the Middle East in the city of Mecca.
Houthi Attacks and Saudi Response
These warnings were lifted a few hours later. In recent days, southern regions of Saudi Arabia have been targeted by a series of Houthi attacks. The Houthis announced on Monday that they had launched dozens of missiles and drones towards a military airbase in Khamis Mushait in southern Saudi Arabia. According to this group, the targets of these attacks were aircraft hangars, radar systems, runways, and ammunition depots.

Saudi officials in that area and three other southern cities issued emergency warnings. Additionally, the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen announced that as a result of the Houthi attacks, 13 civilians have been injured. Meanwhile, the Houthis have made significant advances in recent days in battles against government forces supported by Saudi Arabia.
Iran's Withdrawal and International Negotiations
Masoud Pezeshkian, the President of Iran, emphasized in a media interview on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in India that Iran is not at war with Saudi Arabia and that countries in the region have a "misunderstanding" regarding Iran's attacks on U.S. military bases in the area. These remarks come as Iran's Foreign Ministry has denied any involvement of Tehran in the ongoing war in Yemen.
Iran has stressed that the Houthis are "completely independent and make their decisions based on their own interests." Meanwhile, the United Nations Security Council is holding a meeting on Tuesday to review the situation in the Bab al-Mandab Strait. The escalating tensions in this region have caused significant disruptions in global oil markets.
These conflicts, which have left hundreds dead, have expanded the areas under Houthi control. As a result of a sudden attack in the strategic Bab al-Mandab region, which connects Europe to Asia, the Houthis have managed to gain complete control of the western coast of Yemen along the Red Sea.
In light of these developments, Qatar also warned on Tuesday that the closure of the Bab al-Mandab Strait by the Houthis would be "catastrophic for the entire world."
