Afrah Al-Zouba, Yemen's Foreign Minister, emphasized the need for Washington to act to stop Iran's support for the Houthis in a phone conversation with the U.S. chargé d'affaires. This conversation took place following increased tensions in the Red Sea and the Bab-el-Mandeb Strait.

Afrah Al-Zouba, Yemen's Foreign Minister, discussed the recent developments in the country and the impact of the Houthis' actions on regional security and international shipping in a phone call that took place at 10 AM today with Neil Hope, the U.S. chargé d'affaires in Yemen.

Emphasis on the Need for U.S. Action

In this important conversation, Al-Zouba urged the U.S. to take tangible actions to stop the "flow of weapons, funding, and military expertise provided by Iran to the Houthis" in light of the increased tensions in the Red Sea and the Bab-el-Mandeb Strait. This request comes as the security situation on Yemen's western coast and the Bab-el-Mandeb is critically alarming.

Damage Caused by Houthi Actions

The Yemeni Foreign Minister also referred to the damage inflicted by the Houthis on civilian infrastructure and the displacements caused by these tensions. He emphasized that the Yemeni government continues its duty to protect citizens and restore sovereignty across the country with responsibility and seriousness. Al-Zouba added: "The actions of the Houthis threaten not only Yemen but also regional stability and global trade."

He highlighted the critical importance of international community support for Yemen's sovereignty and government, stressing that political positions must now translate into practical actions. Al-Zouba also warned that the Houthis are trying to buy time and rearm themselves by providing "misleading guarantees" to pressure regional countries while consolidating their control over the western coast and the Bab-el-Mandeb.

Neil Hope, the U.S. chargé d'affaires in Yemen, condemned the Houthi attacks against international shipping and regional security during this conversation, reiterating Washington's continued support for the Yemeni government and people and the country's determination to continue cooperation aimed at establishing stability. This conversation comes amid heightened tensions in the region and the urgent need for immediate action to address the threats posed by the Houthis.
