For de la Fuente, the announcement of the player roster was the first time since Spain's victory in the World Cup in July. In a video released from the event, de la Fuente was present alongside the residents of Ceuta and said, “This is Ceuta, this is Spain.” This statement reflects the growing sense of solidarity in Spain towards this region, which was previously known more as a forgotten area before the migration crisis.

Future Plans of the Spain National Team

The Spain national team will begin its match in the Nations League against England at Wembley Stadium on September 26. Spanish players will wear two stars on their jerseys for the first time after their second World Cup victory. After this match, Spain will host Croatia on September 29 and the Czech Republic on October 3, and finally travel to Croatia on October 6.

De la Fuente has maintained the national team roster in such a way that most of the World Cup champion players are included. In this roster, Inter Milan goalkeeper, Josep Martinez, has been called up instead of young Barcelona player, Gavi Garcia, who is absent due to a minor knee issue. Additionally, Real Madrid defender, Dean Huysen, has been selected instead of Marcos Llorente, who has retired from international football. Ferdinand Lopez, a forward from Espanyol, has been called up to the national team for the first time, replacing Borja Iglesias.

Ceuta is one of two Spanish territories on the northern coast of Africa and has been under Spanish ownership since 1580. In this region, Christians and Muslims, Spanish and Moroccan residents live together, and many efforts are made to cross the border in search of a better life in Europe.

The Real Madrid fan group has also asked their star, Kylian Mbappe, and two other players to publicly apologize to the people of Ceuta. These three wore a shirt with a message of solidarity during their last match in La Liga, but they did not fully wear the shirt.
