Collapse of Residential Building in Gaza Claims 11 Palestinian Lives

A multi-story residential building in the west of Gaza City collapsed early Wednesday, killing at least 11 Palestinians, including women and children. According to local eyewitness reports, six families are still trapped under the rubble of this building.

Rescue Operations in Gaza

Verified images show rescue teams pulling children from under the rubble and working with local residents. The cries for help from children could be heard from beneath the debris as civil defense teams struggled to reach them. One video shows a young girl being pulled alive from the ruins, and several other survivors, including children who were gasping for breath, were transported to an ambulance.

Consequences of War on Construction

It is still unclear whether there have been more casualties. The Gaza Ministry of Health and civil defense teams have not issued an immediate statement. Local media reports that this building had previously been damaged in Israeli bombings, weakening its structure, which ultimately led to its collapse.

Thousands of homes and apartment buildings in Gaza have been severely damaged or partially destroyed and are currently uninhabitable, at risk of sudden collapse. Many Palestinians are living in temporary shelters and semi-destroyed buildings, as Israel has restricted the entry of necessary construction materials for repairs and heavy equipment needed by civil defense teams to safely clear debris and conduct rescues.

This shortage has forced rescue teams to rely primarily on manual labor to access individuals trapped in such collapses, significantly slowing emergency response times.
