Israeli Soldiers Shut Down the Ibrahimi Mosque in Hebron

Israeli regime soldiers continued to intensify restrictions, shutting down the Ibrahimi Mosque in the city of Hebron until Thursday evening. This action took place while the occupying forces increased their military presence around this site and established new checkpoints.

Impact on Educational Activities

The closure of the Ibrahimi Mosque has halted the entry of students and educational staff to two nearby elementary schools, namely the boys' school "Ibrahimi" and the girls' school "Al-Faiha." Following these restrictions, educational activities at the Ibrahimi school were completely stopped, and the educational process at the Al-Faiha school was also disrupted.

Military Presence and Facilitating Settler Entry

Local sources have reported that Israeli soldiers have increased their presence at the entrances leading to the Ibrahimi Mosque. These actions are clearly aimed at facilitating the entry of settlers into the city of Hebron and its historical sites. Additionally, several gates leading to the markets in the old part of Hebron have also been closed.

“Amjad Karaja,” the director of the Hebron Waqf, condemned the closure of the Ibrahimi Mosque as an unacceptable act, considering it a blatant violation of the sanctity of the mosque and an infringement on Muslims' right to access their places of worship. He emphasized that such actions fuel ongoing tensions and restrictions in the area.

The Sanctity of the Ibrahimi Mosque

The Ibrahimi Mosque is considered one of the sacred sites for both Muslims and Jews in the city of Hebron and has witnessed tensions and security restrictions multiple times over the years. Part of this mosque is used as a synagogue by Jews, and the military measures of the Israeli regime around it have repeatedly limited Palestinians' access to the mosque and nearby schools.

The presence of Jewish settlers in the heart of the old part of Hebron has also made this city one of the most tense areas in the West Bank. This situation has not only affected the daily lives of Palestinians but has also fueled social and cultural tensions, raising serious concerns about human rights and religious freedoms in the region.
