In an interview with Jorge Valdano, the former Argentine player, Yamal addressed this issue and said: "People are indirectly racist towards you, but they may not realize it. Many comments or looks are racist, and they don’t even notice it." He continued: "If someone tells me I am black, it doesn’t upset me; in the end, I am black and have no other color. The other issue is whether this opinion is good or bad and whether it was expressed to insult me."

Racist Incidents in Football

Yamal referred to the racist incidents he has witnessed during his career and emphasized that in matches, if spectators have bought tickets to see him, they should not get angry for insulting him. In October 2024, images emerged showing Lamine Yamal, Raphinha, and Ansu Fati being subjected to racist insults during Barcelona's match against Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu. Additionally, the Spanish Observatory of Racism and Xenophobia stated in a statement published in March that Yamal and Vinicius Junior were among the main targets of online racist insults in Spain in the last quarter of 2025.
