Netanyahu: The Largest Hezbollah Stronghold in Southern Lebanon Has Been Destroyed

Benjamin Netanyahu, the Prime Minister of Israel, announced in a video message on Monday, September 23, that the country's army has successfully destroyed the largest terrorist stronghold of Hezbollah in the Boufort Heights and Ali Taher in southern Lebanon. This action is considered another "great victory" for Israel against this group supported by the Islamic Republic.

Netanyahu's Warning to Hezbollah

In this message, Netanyahu warned Hezbollah that if this group has not "learned a lesson" from the Ali Taher operation and attacks again, it will face "much heavier blows." He also emphasized that there are still actions remaining that Israel will complete.

Continuing Operations of the Israeli Army

The Prime Minister of Israel noted that his country's policy is "clear" and the army will continue to destroy Hezbollah's infrastructure in what Israel calls the "security zone" in southern Lebanon. These movements aim to eliminate any threats against Israel.

The Israeli army announced last week that it has completed the cleansing and destruction of Hezbollah's underground network in the Ali Taher Heights and has taken "operational control" of this area both above and below ground. The Ali Taher Heights is located about 15 kilometers from the Israeli border and has recently been one of the main battlegrounds between the two sides.

The Israeli army, referring to the discovery of an underground network over two kilometers long, stated that dozens of Iranian-made rockets, missiles, drones, anti-tank weapons, mines, and explosives were stored in this network. Additionally, a command center belonging to Hezbollah's "Badr" unit was also present in this complex.

Diplomatic Background

Netanyahu's remarks come ahead of a new round of U.S. diplomatic efforts to stabilize security arrangements at the Israel-Lebanon border. A U.S. State Department official announced on Sunday that representatives from both countries will meet in Rome in October to continue negotiations on a U.S.-mediated security agreement.

This official emphasized that the implementation of the mentioned agreement is the "only practical mechanism" for restoring Lebanon's sovereignty and ensuring Israel's security.
