Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the President of Turkey, will run for the upcoming presidential election to be held on April 16, 2028. This news was announced by Mehmet Oçum, advisor to the Turkish presidency. Oçum stated: "The election will take place on April 16, which coincides with the anniversary of the referendum that changed Turkey's system from parliamentary to presidential."
Election Predictions and Legal Limitations
Oçum also pointed out that according to the Turkish constitution, an individual cannot serve as president for three consecutive terms. Therefore, if the elections are held as scheduled, Erdoğan's chances of participating in this election will decrease. However, officials from the ruling party are seeking to hold early elections so that Erdoğan can run again by using one of the constitutional provisions due to the incomplete presidential term.
