These statements came as Houthi forces recently took control of the coastal city of Dhubab and the island of Perim (Mayyun). This island divides the Bab el-Mandeb Strait into two shipping channels, and control over it gives the Houthis direct access to one of the world's most important waterways. These developments occur as the Houthis have announced their intention to block Saudi oil supplies to Asia and the commercial shipping of this country.
