William Hague, the senior minister of Britain, announced at the Trades Union Congress (TUC) held on Tuesday in Brighton that Britain will no longer remain silent in the face of the massacre of innocent children in Gaza. He made these remarks as the international community remains concerned about the humanitarian situation in Gaza and the West Bank.

Delay in Britain's Response

Hague stated in his speech that Britain has acted "very slowly" in response to the situation in Gaza and the West Bank in the past. Emphasizing the need for a change in Britain's approach, he said: "We will no longer remain silent in the face of the separation of Palestinian families and the massacre of innocent children in Gaza. Hope for a two-state solution is fading before our eyes."

New Sanctions Against Israel

Hague also referred to the new sanctions announced by Edward Miliband, the British Foreign Secretary, last week. He stated that these sanctions are aimed at changing the course and increasing pressure on the Israeli government. According to him, "the people of Israel are not responsible for their government's actions, so we are deliberately targeting Israeli illegal settlements."

He also clarified that these sanctions are intended to preserve hope for peace in the Middle East and to stand against injustices. Hague said: "We will stand for peace and create a coalition of international partners to speak with one voice and remind the world who we are."

In response, the Israeli embassy in London reacted to these statements, stating that such remarks are one-sided and concerning. They emphasized that any serious discussion about this conflict must also consider the victims of Palestinian terrorism and criticized the neglect of these victims as a distorted image of reality.

An introduction to Miliband's new sanctions was also presented in the British Parliament. He announced that to prevent support for the occupation, Britain will implement a ban on the import of goods from illegal settlements. These measures include comprehensive sanctions against companies and individuals who contribute to the development of these settlements.
