Hojjatoleslam Shahriari: Islamic Unity is the Path to Achieving Regional Security

Hojjatoleslam Hamid Shahriari, Secretary General of the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought, emphasized the importance of two principles: "human dignity" and "justice" at the international conference "Commemoration of Sheikh Syed Yahya Baku" held in Baku. He pointed out that these fundamental human rights must be respected without discrimination, and unfortunately, today we are witnessing widespread violations of these rights, especially against the Palestinian people.

Criticism of Western Double Standards

Hojjatoleslam Shahriari, referring to recent developments in Palestine and Gaza, stated: "The Islamic world has been facing the issue of the occupation of Palestine and the displacement of the people of this land for more than seven decades, and the support of Western powers for the Zionist regime has perpetuated this situation." He also criticized the double standards of the West in dealing with war and human rights, saying: "If killings and displacement are condemned, they should be condemned everywhere in the world, and we cannot have different criteria for similar behaviors."

The Necessity of Unity Among Islamic Countries

The Secretary General of the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought deemed it timely for Islamic countries, the free people of the world, and international organizations to unite for practical support of the Palestinian people and prioritize the Palestinian issue. He also considered the recent imposed war against Iran as a test of the independence and capability of the Islamic Republic, adding: "A powerful Iran can be a model for Islamic countries and oppressed nations. We must rely on internal capacities and trust in God Almighty instead of depending on foreign powers."

Hojjatoleslam Shahriari emphasized the importance of the independence of regional countries, stating: "Islamic countries must rely more than ever on regional capacities to ensure their security and not allow regional security to become a tool for serving the interests of foreign powers."

He further referred to the increasing relations among regional countries and considered this trend a sign of strengthening cooperation and solidarity in the Islamic world. He said: "Today, more than ever, the necessity of Islamic unity in practice has become evident. Regional countries have come to the conclusion that sustainable security is achieved through cooperation among themselves."
