Mohammad Irani: Israel's Withdrawal from Lebanon is Not Possible Soon

Mohammad Irani, former Iranian ambassador to Lebanon and Kuwait, analyzed the current situation of Israel and Hezbollah in an interview held on Saturday in Beirut. He emphasized that Israel is currently in a position where it cannot easily retreat from its actions.

The Complexity of the Withdrawal and Disarmament Equation

Irani pointed out the history of Israel's presence in Lebanon, emphasizing that the country's entry into southern Lebanon was justified under the pretext of disarming Hezbollah. He said, "Israel has stated that it conditions its withdrawal from Lebanon on the disarmament of Hezbollah and the sovereignty of the Lebanese government over the south of the country."

This Iranian diplomat referred to the negotiations that have taken place between Lebanon, the United States, and Israel, stating that these negotiations have also been pursued bilaterally between the Lebanese government and Israel. One of the most important agreements mentioned was the framework agreement of June 26, which was supposed to lead to phased actions.

Obstacles in the Path of Disarming Hezbollah

Despite these agreements, Irani pointed out that the Lebanese government has not been able to achieve specific results. He said, "Hezbollah has stated that since it was not a party to this agreement, it does not consider itself obligated to implement it." This issue has made the topic of disarmament remain complex and fraught with many obstacles.

Irani also referred to the hopes of the Lebanese government for a gradual move towards disarming Hezbollah, stating that despite the efforts of the Lebanese army, Hezbollah's insistence on non-commitment to agreements has cast a shadow over this path. He clarified that Israel has tied its withdrawal to this issue, while Hezbollah fundamentally does not accept this equation.

In conclusion, Mohammad Irani referred to the current situation and said, "It seems that Israel is in the last position it wants to be in, and it seems unlikely that under the current circumstances, considering the atmosphere of war with Iran, the Israelis would want to retreat from their actions."

Given these conditions, it seems that Israel's withdrawal from Lebanon will not be possible in the near future, and this issue could have extensive implications for the security and political situation in the region.
