The British government responds to Saudi Arabia's request for military support

The British government is considering Saudi Arabia's request for military and diplomatic assistance against the Houthis. This request was made after the Houthi group (Ansar Allah) seized parts of Yemen's coastline near the Bab al-Mandab port and launched attacks on east-west pipelines that carry nearly four percent of the world's oil supply.

Details of Houthi Attacks and Their Impacts

In recent days, the Houthis have significantly impacted Saudi Arabia's security situation with extensive attacks on the kingdom's oil facilities. According to sources, the Saudi government may need five to six weeks to repair the damage caused by drone attacks on the oil pipelines. This situation has fueled rising oil prices in global markets, with prices sharply increasing last week.

Britain's Response and Dependence on Maritime Security

The British government is deeply concerned about these developments, as if the Houthis gain control of the Bab al-Mandab port, it could severely impact international shipping and significantly raise energy prices in Britain. Andy Burnham, the Prime Minister of Britain, is likely to have agreed to send military advisors to Saudi Arabia to assist the country in countering Houthi threats.

Meanwhile, British Foreign Secretary Edward Miliband, in a call with Faisal bin Farhan, the Saudi Foreign Minister, emphasized Britain's strong support for Saudi Arabia and the legitimate government of Yemen. Additionally, airstrikes by the Saudi coalition in Yemen's Taiz province have resulted in the deaths of three people, including two children. Furthermore, the Saudi coalition has reported that 13 civilians were injured due to Houthi attacks on the cities of Khamis Mushait, Abha, and Taif in Saudi Arabia.
