The Lebanese Parliament's Vote of Confidence in the Government of Nawaf Salam

The Lebanese Parliament, in a public session that began on Wednesday at 5:00 PM local time, voted in confidence for the government of Nawaf Salam. This session, which followed two days of discussion regarding the performance of the Nawaf Salam cabinet, ultimately resulted in the approval of 68 positive votes out of 128 parliamentary representatives, while 12 representatives voted against the government and two others abstained.

Walkout by Representatives of the 'Loyalty to the Resistance' Bloc

This vote took place in the absence of representatives from the 'Loyalty to the Resistance' bloc, who left the parliamentary chamber before the voting began. This action by the representatives of this bloc indicates the prevailing political and social tensions in Lebanon and reflects the lack of agreement among various political groups in the country.

Power Outage in the Parliament Chamber Concurrent with Announcement of Results

In an interesting scene, as the results of the vote and the extension of confidence in the government of Nawaf Salam were announced by Nabih Berri, the Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament, the power in the parliamentary chamber suddenly went out. This incident created a unique atmosphere in the chamber, and despite this interruption, the representatives continued their sessions.

The Lebanese Parliament had previously voted in confidence for the government of Nawaf Salam in Esfand 1403, when the cabinet managed to secure 95 votes out of 128 from the parliamentary representatives. At that time, 4 representatives abstained and 12 others voted against the government. Additionally, 17 representatives were absent from that session. These events indicate the ongoing political challenges in Lebanon.

History of the Formation of the Nawaf Salam Government

The government of Nawaf Salam, which he heads, consists of 24 ministers and was formed after the resignation of the interim government led by Najib Mikati. Joseph Aoun, the President of Lebanon, signed the decree for the resignation of the caretaker government on February 9, 1403, thus leading to the formation of the new government under Nawaf Salam. Nawaf Salam was appointed as the new Prime Minister of Lebanon after receiving 84 votes in parliamentary consultations.

These developments occur while Lebanon is experiencing economic and political instability, and efforts to maintain a ceasefire between the Israeli regime and Hezbollah are still ongoing. The election of Joseph Aoun as the fourteenth President of Lebanon also ended more than two years of power vacuum in the country. He was elected to this position with 99 votes in the second round of voting, and it seems that his presence in the presidency will initiate new movements in the political arena of Lebanon.
