On Sunday, American officials informally met with representatives of Yemen's Ansarullah at their embassy in Muscat, the capital of Oman. This meeting, which was not publicly announced, occurred as Ansarullah forces have gained control over significant parts of the Red Sea coast.
Details of the Meeting in Oman
According to informed sources, this meeting was held with the mediation of the Omani government, which is known as a long-standing mediator in the region. During this session, Ansarullah representatives informed American officials that they have no plans to attack American vessels and will adhere to the 2025 ceasefire with the United States.

Mohammad Abdulsalam, a senior Ansarullah official based in Muscat, was one of the attendees at this meeting. He is under U.S. sanctions. Additionally, Abdulmalik Al-Ajiri, another senior Ansarullah official, was present at this meeting. American officials emphasized that maintaining freedom of navigation in the Red Sea and preventing the export of terrorism from the Middle East are fundamental U.S. interests.
Background of the War in Yemen
The war in Yemen, which began in 2014, has become one of the largest humanitarian crises in the world. Ansarullah, which seized Yemen's capital in 2014, has been fighting against a coalition led by Saudi Arabia since then. In recent years, the war had been in a relatively calmer state, but with the announcement of a blockade on Saudi ships in the Red Sea in July, hostilities have intensified again.
In this context, Donald Trump, the former President of the United States, has stated that Ansarullah asked his administration to distance itself from the war in Yemen. Additionally, J.D. Vance, the Vice President, announced on Monday that Washington is in direct contact with Ansarullah.
These developments come as Mohammed bin Salman, the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, contacted Trump last week and requested military support. It seems that the U.S. has informed Riyadh that it will not intervene directly in these conflicts.
The Omani embassy in the United States and Mohammad Abdulsalam have not responded to requests for comments on this matter. The recent meeting of Ansarullah representatives with American officials could be seen as a new diplomatic effort aimed at resolving the Yemen crisis.
