The annual conference of British trade unions began at 10 AM today at the London Conference Center. This event, attended by representatives of various unions and human rights activists, emphasized the importance of ending the Gaza war and the necessity of establishing a permanent ceasefire.
Call for a Permanent Ceasefire
Participants in this conference clearly stated that the first necessary step for establishing peace in the region is to strive for a permanent ceasefire and a fair peace plan. This plan should be designed based on international law and United Nations resolutions, especially the "two-state solution." In this regard, union representatives called on the UK government to pass a law banning trade with Israeli settlements. This request clearly reflects the deep concern of the British labor community regarding the human rights situation in Palestine.
Economic and Military Sanctions
Furthermore, participants called for the suspension of the trade and partnership agreement between the UK and the Israeli regime. They emphasized that this suspension should continue until Israel adheres to international laws. Additionally, calls were made to end arms trade and military cooperation with Israel in accordance with international law. These sanctions are seen as a tool to pressure the Israeli regime and emphasize the rights of Palestinians.
Participants also expressed their support for the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement against the occupying regime. They stressed the importance of not investing in occupied territories and supported union campaigns in favor of Palestine and activities related to Labor Day.
Solidarity with Palestinian Workers
The conference, as part of expanding solidarity among British trade unions with the people and workers of Palestine, emphasized the need to respond to their requests. These requests were made especially in light of the difficult conditions and ongoing violations of Palestinian workers' rights. Union representatives also highlighted the importance of supporting artists and cultural activists who refrain from trading goods and services linked to human rights violations.
At the end of the conference, participants continued their solidarity with the Palestinian people and emphasized the necessity of imposing broad sanctions until the Israeli regime adheres to international laws. This conference reflects the serious determination of British trade unions to support human rights and social justice globally.
