Building Collapse in Gaza; 50 Children Trapped Under Rubble

A residential building in the Gaza Strip collapsed at 1 AM, leaving 50 children trapped under the rubble. This incident occurred while many Palestinians, displaced due to recent Israeli attacks, were sleeping in the building.

Search and Rescue Operations Continue

Civil defense teams quickly sprang into action and began search and rescue operations to find those trapped under the rubble. So far, 11 bodies, including 5 children, have been recovered, and 12 people have been rescued alive from the building. However, according to the spokesperson for Gaza's civil defense, about 100 people remain trapped under the rubble, and their fate is uncertain.

Equipment Shortages and Existing Dangers

A shortage of heavy equipment has complicated the rescue efforts. The civil defense spokesperson made an urgent request for the dispatch of rescue equipment during a press conference, stating, "We urgently need the equipment required for the operation to extract individuals from under the rubble."

This building had been damaged due to Israeli attacks before its collapse, and its residents were forced to live there due to the lack of alternative shelter. The rescue operations are being coordinated with the Gaza municipality, the Egyptian committee, the Arab organization, and the International Red Cross. Additionally, the United Nations Development Programme is also supporting these operations.

Dangerous Conditions of Other Buildings

The safety of other buildings in the Gaza Strip is also at risk. According to local authorities, about 2,000 buildings in the area have been damaged, and their residents cannot leave these buildings due to the lack of safe places. The continued presence of families in these buildings significantly increases the risk of structural collapses and a rise in casualties.

Alongside these issues, rescue operations in Gaza are facing other challenges as well. The destruction of infrastructure and restricted access to affected areas have severely complicated relief efforts. The current situation highlights the urgent need for immediate action and international support.
