Yemeni Houthis announced that they have shot down a Saudi F-15 fighter jet in Marib province. The group emphasized that domestically made missiles were used for this operation.

Yemeni Houthis claimed on Wednesday in a military statement that they successfully shot down a Saudi F-15 fighter jet. This jet was conducting hostile operations in the airspace of Marib province, which is embroiled in Yemen's civil war.

Details of the Fighter Jet Downing

Yahya Saree, the military spokesperson for the Houthis, announced on social media that the fighter jet was targeted using a domestically made air-to-air missile. He added: "The armed forces of Yemen managed to shoot down this jet while it was supporting Saudi military movements in the airspace of Marib." This claim comes as Saudi Arabia is conducting military and air operations in the region.

Saudi Response and New Claims

Simultaneously with this claim, Saudi air defense also announced that it intercepted and destroyed a drone launched by the Houthis before it entered the restricted airspace of Mecca. Yahya Saree also rejected Saudi claims that the Houthis targeted the city of Mecca, emphasizing that the group's operations only target oil facilities and military bases.

These developments come as battles between Yemeni government forces, supported by Saudi Arabia, and the Houthis have intensified since the resurgence of Yemen's civil war in July. The Houthis have also recently declared a maritime blockade against Saudi Arabia and targeted its ships in the Red Sea.

Dimensions of the War and Consequences

This war, which has directly impacted the lives of millions, has become one of the largest humanitarian crises in the world. With rising tensions and escalating conflicts, new dangers, especially for civilians, have increased. The Houthis are attempting to enhance their military capabilities and political influence in the region with such operations and increase pressure on Saudi Arabia.
