Macklemore's Removal and Ed Sheeran's Reaction

Hours before the withdrawal of his groups, Ed Sheeran expressed his position on social media regarding this issue. He pointed out that the decision to remove Macklemore from the tour was made by the organizers, the Messina Touring Group, not him. "I would never disappoint fans who have planned to attend," Ed Sheeran said. He also added, "I respect Macklemore's will and determination to stand up and shout about his beliefs" and emphasized that for him, diplomacy and dialogue are more important than political disputes.

Artists' Withdrawal and Supportive Messages

However, these explanations did not convince Ed Sheeran's supporting acts. Aaron Rowe and Bioga, two Irish artists, along with the Danish group Lukas Graham and Finneas, Billie Eilish's brother, expressed their support for Macklemore on Instagram. Finneas wrote in his post, "Artists should not remain silent when defending the oppressed" and announced that he would be withdrawing from the upcoming tour dates.

Aaron Rowe also referenced his country's history, stating, "As the people of Ireland, we are well aware of genocide, forced famine, and brutal occupation." He expressed friendship with Ed Sheeran but stated that he could not remain neutral under these circumstances.

These developments in the pop music world reflect the consequences of the Gaza war and its impact on artists. Earlier this month, Macklemore repeated the slogan "Freedom for Palestine" at a concert in New Jersey and criticized Israel's atrocities. However, after mounting pressure, American venues announced that they would not allow him to take the stage as the opening act.

This pressure particularly came from Robert Kraft, the American billionaire, who stated in a statement that Macklemore's remarks were offensive and disturbing. Ed Sheeran, who has tried to avoid entering politics, is now facing heavy pressure from fellow artists and his fans.
