FIFA Presents Review of Infantino's Suspended Investment Plan to Its Council

FIFA announced on Thursday that the review of the suspended FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE) plan will be presented to its council. This news came after Jesper Møller, the president of Danish football, criticized FIFA for its lack of accountability regarding this plan.

Møller's Criticism and Unanswered Questions

Møller strongly criticized the organization during last week's FIFA Legal Committee meeting, stating that FIFA has not answered important questions regarding the suspended FFE plan. This plan, proposed by Gianni Infantino, FIFA's president, included selling commercial shares in tournaments to foreign investors. Møller viewed this lack of accountability as a sign of FIFA's poor management and called for greater transparency on the matter.

FIFA stated in a release: "FIFA's permanent committees provide advice and assistance to the FIFA Council in various areas" and added: "As previously announced, the review of the suspended FIFA Forward Enterprise plan will be presented to the FIFA Council." This council consists of 37 members, including the FIFA president, eight vice presidents, and 28 members elected by FIFA member associations.

Global Responses to Infantino's Plan

Infantino's proposal to sell 20% of the shares of World Cup and other FIFA events has sparked widespread negative reactions. Various confederations, including UEFA, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), and the Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF), have called for changes in FIFA's leadership structure. Discussions about a potential vote of no confidence against Infantino have also emerged, but informed sources indicated that the FIFA president still enjoys sufficient support to maintain his presidency.

The FIFA presidential elections will take place on March 18, 2027, in Rabat, and Infantino is seeking a fourth term. Given the current circumstances, it seems that opponents will need to change their strategies and focus on limiting Infantino's power.
