A confidential meeting has taken place between representatives of the United States and the Houthis in Muscat, Oman. This meeting occurs amid heightened tensions between the Houthis and Saudi Arabia. The main focus of these negotiations has been to prevent direct military confrontation and ensure shipping security in the region.

Details of the Meeting and Houthi Positions

In this meeting, Mohammed Abdulsalam, one of the prominent representatives of the Houthis, was present and outlined the group's position regarding American ships. The Houthis explicitly stated in these negotiations that they have no plans to attack U.S. vessels and emphasized their commitment to previous understandings with Washington.

Field Developments and Increasing Tensions

Meanwhile, field developments between the Houthis and Saudi Arabia continue. The Houthis have reported carrying out several missile and drone attacks against targets in Saudi Arabia, including Aramco oil facilities in Yanbu and an airbase in southern Saudi Arabia. Additionally, the Houthi military spokesperson has reported high figures for Saudi airstrikes in Yemen, which independent sources have not confirmed.

The U.S. State Department has also not provided detailed explanations regarding this meeting in Oman but has identified the security of shipping lines in the Red Sea and addressing regional security threats as priorities.

Yemen, as a strategic country adjacent to the Red Sea and Bab el-Mandeb, has turned its internal conflicts into a regional crisis. In recent years, Houthi attacks on ships have led to increased foreign presence and security measures in these waters. Oman has also played a mediating role at various times due to its relations with different parties in the conflict.

However, there has been no official information released regarding the outcome of the recent meeting in Muscat and whether these contacts will lead to a new agreement.
