Saudi Arabia Requests Assistance from 4 Countries for Interceptor Missiles

This critical situation has led Riyadh to seek assistance from four countries: France, the UK, Pakistan, and Egypt, to counter missile and drone threats.

Reason for Saudi Request for Help

Regional officials have stated in discussions with news sources that Saudi Arabia is not only looking to purchase new missiles but is also seeking to establish air defense capabilities from the mentioned countries. This request comes due to the increasing pressure on Saudi Arabia's defense systems.

One regional official described the current situation in Saudi Arabia as very difficult, adding that air defense systems are essential to protect military bases, government buildings, and oil facilities scattered across the country. This concern arises from the fact that U.S. interceptor missile reserves have significantly decreased during six months of war with Iran.

Diplomatic Efforts and International Reactions

Saudi Arabia is also trying to rally its allies for a collective international response against the Houthis. However, the current decision is to give diplomacy a chance to reduce tensions before taking broader action. In this regard, Oman and Egypt are recognized as countries leading efforts to de-escalate tensions in Yemen.

Regional officials noted a contradiction regarding Pakistan's position. While Saudi Arabia has requested air defense support from Islamabad, a Pakistani official stated that the country has not received any assistance requests from Saudi Arabia due to the escalating situation with the Houthis.

Additionally, a Turkish official announced that Ankara is negotiating with Iran and the United Arab Emirates to reduce tensions, although no further details about the nature of the negotiations have been provided.
