Ed Sheeran Faces Artists' Withdrawal from His Tour

Ed Sheeran, the British singer, found himself in a crisis on Tuesday when four artists who were supposed to be guests on his tour withdrew from their collaboration. This withdrawal was in support of Macklemore, the rapper, who had been removed from the tour after his statements in support of Palestine.

Artists' Statement and Pressure on Sheeran

Hours after Sheeran commented on social media about Macklemore's removal and placed the responsibility for this decision on the tour organizers, Aaron Ro, Biig Piig, the Danish group Lukas Graham, and Finneas announced on Instagram that they were withdrawing from the tour. While Aaron Ro and Lukas Graham were set to replace Macklemore on the remainder of the tour in the U.S., Biig Piig was also performing several songs with Sheeran during each of his shows.

Finneas's Support for Macklemore

Finneas, Billie Eilish's brother and musical collaborator, wrote on Instagram: "Artists should not be silenced for speaking out in support of the oppressed. I will continue to support Palestine." This action by the artists has put significant pressure on Sheeran, as he has tried to avoid entering political issues and taking a stance on the Gaza conflict.

Aaron Ro and Biig Piig referenced their country's history in explaining their decision. Biig Piig stated: "We are Irish and know colonialism. As founding members of the Irish Artists for Palestine movement, we are committed to advocating for justice." Aaron Ro also mentioned his friendship with Sheeran, adding: "As people from Ireland, we are aware of genocide and forced famine, and we cannot remain indifferent to this issue."

Sheeran's Response and Tour Status

Sheeran stated that the decision to remove Macklemore from the tour was made solely by the organizers after Macklemore made statements in support of Palestine during the tour. He wrote on Instagram: "Macklemore's removal from the tour was the organizer's decision, not mine." Additionally, due to pressure from some venues, Macklemore announced that he had been removed from the tour.

This crisis has occurred just before the resumption of Sheeran's tour in Philadelphia on Saturday. In his message, Sheeran stated that he is trying to use his music to bring people together from different backgrounds and cultures and is seeking to maintain diplomacy and keep dialogues open.
