Hamid Karzai, the former president of Afghanistan, recently condemned the recent attacks on Taliban forces. These attacks, which have intensified in recent months, particularly in various regions of Afghanistan, have raised significant concerns among the people and international organizations.
Increase in Attacks by Taliban Opponents
According to published reports, from May 1 to July 31, 2,947 security incidents were recorded in Afghanistan, which is an 11 percent increase compared to the same period last year. The United Nations has confirmed 55 of these attacks, which mainly involve ambushes and assaults on Taliban checkpoints and military facilities of this group.

Various groups opposing the Taliban, including the Afghanistan Freedom Front and the National Resistance Front, have claimed responsibility for these attacks. Notably, on June 12 and June 22, Taliban Ministry of Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice forces in Herat and Kabul were targeted in attacks. In one of these attacks, a suicide bomber detonated explosives near a boys' school in Kabul, for which no group claimed responsibility.
Insecurity and Border Tensions
The Secretary-General of the United Nations noted in his report to the Security Council that the Afghanistan-Pakistan border has also been restless during this period. Pakistani airstrikes on areas of Ghazni, Kunar, Khost, and Paktika have caused damage to civilians and infrastructure. Meanwhile, clashes between Taliban security forces and Pakistani forces have also been reported in Kandahar, Nangarhar, and Paktia provinces.
On June 30, the Taliban Ministry of Defense announced that in response to Pakistani attacks, drone strikes were conducted against alleged ISIS Khorasan positions and Taliban opposition groups in Pakistani territory. These developments indicate increasing tensions along the Afghanistan-Pakistan borders and internal insecurities in Afghanistan.
Changes in Taliban Leadership and Prisoner Situation
Meanwhile, the Secretary-General of the United Nations has pointed out significant changes in Taliban leadership. Hibatullah Akhundzada, the Taliban leader, has changed one minister, eight deputy ministers, and six governors from May 1 to the end of July. These changes have been particularly noticeable in the Ministries of Defense, Hajj and Religious Affairs, and Information and Culture.
Additionally, according to published reports, the number of prisoners in Taliban prisons has reached 30,300. This organization has also called for support for prisoners in terms of nutrition and healthcare services.
As Afghanistan's economy faces serious challenges, the return of migrants has also added to economic pressures. Estimates indicate that from January 1 to August 22, nearly 1.15 million Afghan migrants have returned to the country.
