Enzo Marisca, the head coach of Manchester City, in a press conference on Wednesday, emphasized the importance of his team's performance despite the controversies surrounding the VAR decision, referring to their 1-0 victory in the Manchester derby. This match was held on Sunday at Old Trafford, and Manchester City managed to secure this victory despite having their number of players reduced to 10 in the 23rd minute.
The impact of the VAR decision on the game's outcome
Erling Haaland's winning goal in the second half was initially disallowed for offside, but after a VAR review, the goal was confirmed. However, following this decision, the Pro Ref officiating body admitted that VAR had made a mistake in confirming this goal. Marisca said in this conference: "Talking about a specific moment while we played 70 or 75 minutes with 10 players is really weak. Our performance was outstanding, and I am happy."

Criticism of officiating decisions and VAR
Marisca further referred to a controversial decision in Manchester City's 2-1 defeat against Manchester United in January 2023, stating that he is still waiting for an apology from the officiating body. He added: "Three years ago when I was here, the same thing happened in the match against Manchester United. That goal was not a regular goal, and no one apologized. We are still waiting for an apology for that."
The head coach of Manchester City also defended the VAR referees, stating that they usually have little time to make difficult decisions and mistakes are inevitable in such situations. He clarified: "Sometimes, decisions go in your favor and sometimes against you. But it is also not easy for VAR and the people behind the screen; they have to make a decision in 10 or 20 seconds. It is not an easy job. Sometimes they make mistakes. I make mistakes too; players make mistakes; I think this is part of our job."
