Wang Yi: China is ready to uphold Iran's legal rights

Wang Yi, the Chinese Foreign Minister, emphasized China's readiness to strengthen dialogue and cooperation with Iran during a meeting with his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araghchi, in Beijing on Wednesday, stating that Beijing is committed to upholding the legal rights and interests of this country.

This meeting took place a week before the scheduled visit of Xi Jinping, the President of China, to the United States. During this visit, Xi is set to meet with Donald Trump, the President of the United States, to discuss the war with Iran and the situation in the Strait of Hormuz.

During this meeting, Wang invited both Iran and the United States to maintain rationality and restraint, emphasizing the need for effective measures to reopen the Strait of Hormuz as soon as possible. He also noted that China does not want regional tensions to spill over into Yemen and the Red Sea.

The necessity of reconstructing the negotiation mechanism

The Chinese Foreign Minister told Araghchi that Tehran and Washington should reconstruct the negotiation mechanism based on previous agreements. He added, "The current situation once again shows that the existing security structure in the Middle East is inadequate and needs reform and strengthening."

Wang also emphasized that China is ready to promote peace, fairness, and justice in the region, and its policy towards Iran will remain consistent and stable.

China's response to American media claims

A few days ago, China rejected reports from American media that Chinese entities had provided Tehran with satellite images of the U.S. military base in Jordan. Trump had also stated last April that he wrote a letter to Xi asking him not to sell weapons to Iran.

China is recognized as a key economic partner for Iran and the largest buyer of this country's crude oil. This economic relationship not only influences the development of both countries but also impacts security and stability in the region.
