Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, the President of Egypt, emphasized the necessity of forming an independent Palestinian state and implementing the Gaza ceasefire agreement during his meeting with Mahmoud Abbas.

Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, the President of Egypt, during his recent meeting with Mahmoud Abbas, the President of the Palestinian Authority, in Cairo, emphasized the importance and necessity of resolving the Palestinian issue in order to achieve sustainable stability in the Middle East. This meeting took place amid ongoing tensions and conflicts in the Gaza Strip and the occupied territories.

Emphasis on Implementing International Resolutions

In this meeting, Abdel Fattah el-Sisi condemned the hostile actions of the Zionist regime against the Palestinian people and emphasized that the only way to achieve sustainable stability in the region is through the implementation of international resolutions and the formation of an independent Palestinian state. El-Sisi also called on all parties to adhere to their commitments regarding the cessation of attacks and the facilitation of humanitarian aid.

Efforts for a Ceasefire and Reconstruction of Gaza

The President of Egypt also referred to Cairo's efforts to implement the Gaza ceasefire agreement signed in October 2025 in Sharm El Sheikh. He urged all parties to adhere to their agreements and to create the conditions for the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip. In this meeting, Mahmoud Abbas also expressed appreciation for Egypt's historical and central role in supporting the rights of the Palestinian people and emphasized the necessity of continuing close coordination between Cairo and Ramallah.

The two sides also agreed to increase their consultative mechanisms in the next phase to follow up on regional issues. This agreement comes at a time when the deadlock in ceasefire negotiations continues. The Hamas movement recently announced its agreement to a proposed plan for a 60-day ceasefire and a phased exchange of prisoners, but the Zionist regime has so far refrained from providing an official response to this proposal.

Challenges and Future Prospects

Since March 18, following a two-month halt, the Zionist regime has resumed its attacks and bombings against the Gaza Strip. Disagreements between this regime and Hamas over the details of the implementation of the next phases of the agreement have hindered the extension of the ceasefire and the establishment of lasting peace. In this context, the importance of cooperation and coordination between Cairo and Ramallah has become increasingly evident, and both sides hope that by strengthening this cooperation, they can help resolve the crises in the region.
